Born in 1993, Sounak Das is a visual multimedia artist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his degree in photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. His practice deals with space, community and the spiritual connection of social reality. Das likes to experiment light with forms and patterns, conjuring color and visual perception. Mostly inspired and motivated by minimal, bauhaus and surreal art. His expression mostly focuses on philosophy, which questions the presence of reality. As a visual storyteller his focal media are photography, moving images and sound. His work comprises self-narrative stories and poems. He has produced, worked and collaborated with various artists and projects that include VR film, documentaries, art films, installations, performance art, commercials and after-movies.
Das has attended many workshops, which includes international photojournalism and reportage in 2019 in China and visual narrative by Justin Maxon in 2014 in India. Along with F-Stop magazine featuring his photography series, Sounak’s work has been exhibited in the student category of Sony World Photography Awards, 2019 in Somerset House, Student’s Biennale in 2018 initiated by Kochi Biennale Foundation, DOK 2019 festival organized by the DOK-foundation.
