Kanchan Chander, born in 1957 in New Delhi, completed her education in painting and printmaking at various institutions including College of Art in New Delhi, Weisensee KunstHochschule at Berlin and the Art School at Santiago, Chile. Along with her repertoire that includes various awards and scholarships including Lalit Kala Academy and Ministry of Human Resource Development fellowships in India, a French Government scholarship to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Chander has also taught for two decades at College of Art, New Delhi. Featured in solo and group shows in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Nepal, Australia and Japan, her work was also included in Norwegian International Print Show, Triennial India, International Print Biennale at France, Bhopal, Yugoslavia, and the UK. A Founder Member of the Indian Printmakers Guild, Chander is the recipient of Yuva Mahotsava, Sahitya Kala Parishad, AIFACS, and International Print Biennale Bradford Awards. Her works are in esteemed collections at V&A London; Fukuoka Museum, Japan; Mumbai Airport and Air India, amongst others. Chander lives and works in New Delhi.
Chander in her approach accentuates feminism where she talks about the various roles a woman undertakes in her daily life. She intends to remark on the characterization and judgements that are made with various objects relating to different activities.
