Born in 1957, Kavita Nayar completed her Bachelor in Fine Art, Kala Bhawan, Shantiniketan and Master in Fine Art, College of Art, New Delhi. Nayar is a recipient of numerous scholarships and awards like the French Govt. Scholarship at Cite International Des Arts & Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1985-86. Her repertoire also includes awards by National Legal Literacy Mission for outstanding work in the field of Art, New Delhi and Ministry of Culture, grant to participate in a workshop in the studios of Pal Persson in Sweden.
Nayar went to Ruskin School of Art, Oxford, UK in 1996 as a visiting artist with fellowship of Charles Wallace India Trust. The artist's works have been showcased at several international shows like the International Triennale of Prints in Grenchen, Switzerland and Print Biennale in Japan to name a few. Nayar's works are also exhibited in museums in India, Paris, Sweden, United States, Germany and Poland. The artist is a recipient of junior and senior fellowships of Ministry of Human Resource Dept., India in [1989-92 and 1997-99 respectively].
Along with participating in the Olympics Fine Art Committee at the Olympics 2008 in Beijing, China, Nayar's works are displayed at the Prime Minister's House in New Delhi and in major corporate houses in India and abroad.
Nayar's artworks show us her dexterity through all mediums, namely etching, lithographs and serigraphy, oil or acrylic on canvas, or pastels on paper. In her artworks, she tells us about life through death and death through life, personified by lotuses and foetus, bringing forth the circle of life.
